I Blame Sarah Palin
for the Tuscan shootings. Despite all the rhetoric and political correctness of trying to distance the right-wing media (and talking-heads) from the shooter, there is no doubt: words matter. As Giffords herself presciently foretold, "words have consequences".
What does this have to do with our club? It turns out the deranged killer had an obsession with monetary policy and with creating a “new currency". In a Youtube video called “Introduction: Jared Loughner” he writes, “No! I won’t pay debt with a currency that’s not backed by gold and silver!”
So it seems this fringe movement is gathering steam... :)

Ideology and mental illness is a toxic brew. This tea party movement will be mainstream I'm afraid by the next US elections. Watch out for some demagogue that stirs up more fear to justify a quasi police state. During times of economic stress, old and new bigotry will filter to the surface.
Overall a divided Congress is not conducive to a new bull market. So that's my take on recent political events.
That Hayek/Keynes video was hilarious.
I do have my hard currency biases and I think we could learn a lot from historical contexts of inflation and currency debasement, but my beliefs aren't strong enough to die or kill for!
